For two decades, Aquatechnex biologists have lead the field of aquatic plant management with respect to implementing mapping technologies. Our Aerial Shoreline Analysis (ASA) technology was first implemented in 1986 and remains an important tool in assessing and mapping aquatic systems (click here for Trimble Navigation article Trimble Winning the war on weeds).
In 2012 we added BioSonics Aquatic Ecosystem mapping technologies to our portfolio of technologies. This scientific hydro-acoustic mapping system helps us map aquatic vegetation bio volume and plant height along defined transects to assist in assessment of aquatic plant management operations.
This summer we will also be deploying the ciBioBase technology to support our work. This cloud based system allows our team members to passively map aquatic vegetation and other parameters on the water and upload the data for processing by a server system. Maps can be generated within an hour for use in the field.
This gives our biologists one more tool to better understand the lake systems we operate on and to document the results of our efforts over time to manage noxioua aquatic weed growth.
