The Ventura Water District Board voted to close Casitas Lake to all boaters for an extended period of time to prevent the introduction of Zebra and Quagga Mussels. This action was taken because this lake is primarily a drinking water supply reservoir and because of the threat introduced mussels will have on that use. Unfortunately, it is also one of the best bass lakes in the west and is located within easy driving distance of the Los Angeles Population. Many unhappy fishermen took part in the public process prior to the vote. Other lakes in the region are now thinking about this as well. One of our clients in the region, Westlake, is looking to take similar action to protect their water resources. For more information read this article from the LA Times:
