New Zebra Mussel Map indicates likely new infestation areas

Scientists that study the impact and spread of the Zebra and Quaggu Mussel are now focusing on the amount of Calcium in the water regionally.  Appearently lakes and streams with levels of calcium below 28 mg/l will not support these species at noxious levels.  Based on that information they have developed new maps that show potential spread.  Lakes in the Great Plains and the Southwest appear to be the most threatened by expansion of the range of these pests.  To read the article, click on this link.
