California asks Memorial Day Boaters to Hault Spread of Quagga Mussels

This winter the Quagga Mussel was discovered in Lake Mead, the huge reservoir behind the Hoover Dam.  This close relative of the zebra mussel is a nightmare waiting to happen to our western water resources and deliver systems.  Prevention is really the only option for this aquatic invasive species, there really aren’t in lake methods developed to target and control this mussel.  Once in a water body, this mussel will clog intakes and in an area dependent on irrigation could close up whole delivery systems.  For more information on this effort, see below.
